The Willard family embarks on a long-awaited "dream" vacation to romantic France, where a comic adventure awaits them. When Harry (Fred MacMurray) packs up the wife and kids and sets sail, their trip includes some unexpected twists and turns. Katie (Jane Wyman), Harry's wife, is pursued by a Hungarian admirer, while his daughter Amy (Deborah Walley) meets a brash young playboy. One of Walt Disney's favorite projects was this film, as it provided him the opportunity to visit Paris, a city he had previously experienced during his time as an ambulance driver at the end of World War I. However, Walt Disney later declared "Never again!" after being criticized for a scene in which an attractive Parisian girl flirts with Fred MacMurray at a sidewalk cafe.
The film was recognized for its technical achievements, receiving two Academy Award® nominations - one for Best Costume Design and the other for Best Sound.
